Career Biography & Timeline

🎵 Wheesung's journey in the music industry began in 1997 as a backup dancer for popular artists before he officially debuted in 1999 as a member of the four-piece boy group A4. However, his true calling lay in Black music, leading him to leave the group in 2000 to focus on honing his R&B and soul vocal skills.

🌟 His breakthrough came when he was scouted by M.Boat Entertainment and subsequently debuted as a solo artist under YG Entertainment in 2002 with the album Like A Movie. This marked the beginning of his reign as one of South Korea's premier R&B vocalists, winning the "Artist of the Year" at the Korean Music Awards for his second album, It's Real.

🕊️ Over the years, Wheesung transitioned through various agencies, eventually founding his own independent label, Realslow Company, and later signing with Tajo Entertainment. Tragically, the Korean music industry lost a legendary voice when Wheesung passed away on March 10, 2025, at the age of 43, leaving behind an unforgettable musical legacy.

🎼 Wheesung was synonymous with South Korean R&B and Neo-soul during the 2000s and 2010s. His signature style involved intricate vocal runs, an emotionally charged delivery, and an innate ability to fuse traditional Korean ballad sentiments with Western R&B grooves.

✍️ Beyond his vocal talent, he was a prolific lyricist and producer. He penned hits not only for himself but also for numerous other artists, including Ailee's "Heaven" and Younha's "Password 486." His artistic identity as "Realslow" reflected his dedication to authentic, soulful music.
